Gift of Light

Bill Worrell (Lower Pecos River, Texas)

Bronze

“I have had a life long love affair with the Land which has compelled me to draw it, paint it, sculpt it, to reshape its substances into vessels and microcosmic portraits of the land itself.”
-Bill Worrell

Bill Worrell’s art is inspired by the ancient pictographs of the Indigenous people of the Lower Pecos River area. Worrell stumbled across examples of these beautiful artworks when he took refuge in a cave during a flood in 1979 and was profoundly moved by the experience.

His works are meant to depict the shamans who oversaw the relationship between the physical and the spiritual world. Gift of Light is a rarity in Worrell’s work, representing four arms instead of two.
