SUMMARY:Film Series: Giants Rising
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, October 14th from 5-7pm\n\nDoors open at 4pm for opportunity to walk the grounds.\n\nFilm screening begins at 5PM – TRAILER \n\n\nThe deeper you venture into a coast redwood forest\, the more your imagination runs wild. The tallest and some of the oldest living beings on Earth\, these trees are a gateway to experiencing an unparalleled sense of awe and connection.\nSpending time among these silent giants can change the way we see ourselves and the world around us. Living links to the past\, redwoods also hold superpowers that may play a key role in our future – including their ability to withstand fire and capture carbon\, to offer clues about resilience and longevity\, and to enhance our physical and emotional well-being. How do they do it? And more importantly\, how can we ensure that redwoods will keep working their magic as they continue to be pushed to their limits? \nThrough the stories of those on the frontlines of efforts to understand and safeguard redwoods\, GIANTS RISING reveals the mysterious inner-workings of these majestic trees – celebrating the wonders of America’s most iconic forests and underscoring all that’s at stake. \nPrized for the quality of their wood\, some 95% of the primeval redwoods have been logged since the 1800s. The losses were dramatic\, but so too have been the battles to protect these trees\, then and now. \nIn this film we meet passionate people dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the redwoods and protecting their future. This includes a scientific detective uncovering the secrets of redwood resilience\, members of the Yurok Tribe fighting to restore their cultural connections to these forests\, a park manager summoning new life from ravaged timberlands\, and a modern-day Ansel Adams who’s attempting to display a life-size photograph of a 310 foot redwood— a portrait she hopes will rekindle our connection to these ambassadors from another time. \nThrough the stories of these redwood devotees and others\, we also delve into questions about why we evolved to experience such intense awe in the presence of redwoods\, and how spending time in these forests also offers social benefits— like making us more compassionate\, generous\, and willing to cooperate with each other for the greater good. The goal of GIANTS RISING is not only to celebrate the marvels of redwoods and all they do for us\, but to recognize what we can do for them to ensure they continue rising up for generations to come. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Guidelines:\n\n\n• Put 24 Cottage Rd. Kensington\, NH into your GPS – Follow the driveway to the Parking Lot \n• No dogs are permitted on the property. \nRefund and weather policy \nTickets are non-refundable. Please note that all events at Alnoba are rain or shine. If an event is cancelled due to extreme weather you will receive an email notification. If you do not get an email notifying you that the event is cancelled\, that means the event is still going forward as scheduled. \nBUY TICKETS\n

SUMMARY:Alnoba Art Tours with Joseph Gray
DESCRIPTION:All proceeds donated to support Kensington’s Sawyer Park.\nWalk roughly three hours long over wooded trails and some uneven terrain. \nAbout The Event\nJoin NH sculptor Joseph Gray to walk Alnoba’s forested trails and hear directly from the artist about the inspiration behind his work. Ask questions\, share your thoughts\, and get inspired!\nGray has been working with stone for four decades and has more pieces in Alnoba’s extensive outdoors art collection than any other artist. His unique\, spiritually-inspired sculptures can be found nestled across our campus. \nYour tour will include both Gray’s work and his unique insights into other pieces by internationally renowned artists in the Alnoba collection. \nGray creates his pieces using the ancient\, hands-on technique of hammer and chisel. “There are thousands of chips of stone lying around my sculpture\,” he says. “I have taken an eight ton block of granite and turned it into a small girl walking out of fire in a Holocaust tribute. To most people that would seem impossible. I do not think that way.” \nAs part Abenaki\, Gray believes his Native American background plays a key role in his art. “It connects me with the earth and nature… When I am carving an ancestor or spirit animal\, I do not know what I am carving when I start. I can feel my ancestors guiding me. It is a spiritual experience for me and I lose myself in every sculpture.” \nNotes and Guidelines\n• Meet Gray in the parking lot before the tour start time. The tour will leave promptly\, so arrive in plenty of time. Guests who arrive after the group has departed will not be able to join the tour.\n• Guests must stay with the guide at all times.\n• Please dress appropriately for exploring the outdoors.
